It is told that during the Abbasid Caliphate from the year 744 dirham coinage started in the mints across Iran, and Isfahan was one of the most important coinage centers. During the periods of the Tahirid dynasty, Saffarid dynasty, Buyid dynasty and Ghaznavid dynasty the mints continued to coin making until they were restricted during the period of the Seljuq dynasty, but the mints of Isfahan continued to function. During the periods of the Timurid dynasty and Aq Qoyunlu dynasty the mints of Isfahan still continued their work and during the period of the Safavid dynasty, when Isfahan reached the peak of its flourishing, a special design and methods were invented for the coinage in this city. A wide group of specialists and professionals in this field, who were called by various titles, such as coinage master, were under the supervision of the governor of the mints, called Moayyer ol-Mamalek, and were working in the Qeysarie mints.
