The First Printing Machine

Isfahan was also leading in the regards to the printing industry. In 1628 one of the Armenian’s religious caliphs of Jolfa, Isfahan named “Khachaodur Gesaratsi” along with a few of his friends in Isfahan, built a printing machine and their first book that they printed with their newly-invented printing machine was a religious book named “Zabor-e Davoud”.

This book is now available at the library in Oxford, London and its photographed copy of this book is kept at the Vank Church in Isfahan. In 1638, another printing machine was brought from Rome to Isfahan by Christian missionaries. This printing machine that has Arabic and Farsi letters, belongs to the King Abbas era.

Other printing houses, including lead printing or lithography also existed in Isfahan, which throughout time, stopped operating or updated themselves with modern technology of the printing industry. You can see examples of the first printing machines in the Vank Church’s museum.
