Vertance Yuzukchian, one of the religious authorities of Jolfa of Isfahan during Mohammad Shah Qajar period, witnessed strange matches in Ghushkhane garden. He wrote” once on the first of December, 1843 I witnessed in the same palace that , on behalf of Mohammad Shah a gift was sent to governor of Isfahan, Motamed Al- Dowle Manuchehr Khan, because of the courage he had shown.
on that day not only for the rams, but also for all animals the struggle were done. But all the more frightening, was a scene in it a wild lion fought a bull. Jwani Franchesco Jamaica Carry, Italian traveler who traveled to Isfahan in Shah Sultan Hossein era, wrote” the fifteenth day we went with priests of monastery to watch Ghushkhane garden which was located out of the city. Shah when traveling till coming of happy hours, which is determined by astronomers, amused himself in this garden.
The garden is full of fruit trees. But because the trees are also to each other and there is not enough light to them, the fruit aren`t great. In this garden, a spring in the bed of rock is current. In the middle of garden, a square porch exists that a small marble pond is devised in it. From each side of the porch, one door is opened to the outside and each side of it is painted with beautiful pictures. In decoration and painting of walls and ceilings, gold and azure have being used.
