The permission to establish foreign schools in Iran was issued from the time of the Muzaffar al-Din Shah Qajar, which was set up by the “Stuart Memorial College” or the “Adab” High School in Isfahan, “Mehraeein” in Yazd, and the “College of the British” in Kerman.

The Memorial Stewart College opened in a new mansion 125 years ago. The Second World War and the departure of English school teachers stopped its operation for some years, but its activities were restarted after a break and it continued to work with the teachers who came to Isfahan from England every year, and after renaming the establishment to “Adab High School” the school continued with the same legendary status.

“Beheshtian” High School was founded more than a century ago going by the name “Doshizegan” on Abbasabad Street and at the current location of Isibenmaryam Hospital, but was later transferred to Bagh Vazirzadeh on Shaikhbahaee Street, and continued for some time in the Kazerooni alley. Its teachers were English and most of the students were Christian. Pre-school, mid school, high school and boarding school of Behindanesh was opened in 1933 and the name Behindanesh was given to it for its proximity to the old safavid gardens going by the same name.

The old building of this high school did not survive the 60s, and at the time of the Iran-Iraq war as a result of a bomb blast near the alley of Jahanbani the school was seriously damaged and destroyed, while also a large part of the school’s land was seized by the Telecommunications Administration And the new building was built in a smaller area. The first person to manage the Behindanesh School was Nehras Aydin, she had an Irish mother and an Armenian Bakhtiari father, who was born in Julfa, she had a history of teaching at the English School in Kerman. she was the first director of the Behindanesh School in 1927.
