Legacy of Camel Singing!

Sefidshahr is a city in the Central District of Aran va Bidgol County, 17 km north-west of Kashan, and has a population of nearly 4500.

If you visit Sefidshahr, be sure to ask about “the Camel’s Tale” from the elderly of the region and listen to a long and melodic narration, which expresses the livelihood and the basis of the local and indigenous economy of Nasrabad (the former name of Sefidshahr).

Adults sing a song to children, saying “the camel is grazing / its head as a sugarloaf / its ears as fans / fans and a sugarloaf.” And the song continues by introducing other parts of the camel’s body.

Imagine a camel grazing on a mountain or hill. In each part of this childish poem, the narrator describes a part of the camel’s body with a simile, and then all of the previously mentioned parts, together with the newly introduced one, are repeated by the audience, i.e. the children who are listening to this song.

It is like a word game to strengthen the memory and have fun.

The song has been passed from generation to generation by various narrators and is now considered as a valuable part of our national heritage.
