After the passing of Alireza Abbasi, there were no master calligraphers who could finish the inscriptions of the Abbasi great mosque which were in ‘Sols’ script. Hence, Shah Abbas called Abdolbaqi Tabrizi, one of the apprentices of Alireza Abbasi, from Bagdad to Isfahan.
Molla Abdolbaqi Tabrizi was one of the greatest and most famous Sols, Naskh, and Reqaa script calligraphers and one of the most skilled inscription writers of the Safavid era. His inscriptions in the Abbasi great Mosque are counted as masterpieces of Sols script. Abdolbaqi came to Isfahan and stayed there until his death in 1309 Lunar. The inscriptions on the inner parts of the mosque, especially the inner façade of the western dome, are some of his valuable works that are the pride of the Isfahan school of Calligraphy.
