Before the construction of Vank cathedral, there was a small church in the present place of it.the small church was used by pastorates for more than fifty years. With the increase of the Armenian population in Isfahan, they thought of building a cathedral instead of small Vank, so Vank cathedral was beautifully built in 1655 Ah.
At a later time, the clock tower, the bell tower, the museum, library and office center were added to it. In 1664 its construction was completed. The church`s residence center and department of Armenian affairs of Isfahan and south of Iran are at the end of the eastern side of church yard. All the walls, bald chains, dome ring and inside the dome and also all angles of church have been decorated with oil paintings.
They have themes from the holy Bible; pictures from birth to the ascension of Jesus Christ is imprinted on them. On the parts of church wall, last day, judgment day, Heaven and Hell is seen.
