The life story of Saru Taqi is very bitter and sorrowful. Saru Taqi was the son of a baker from Azerbaijan; yet he could reach the highest positions in the governmental system during his career and finally became prime minister.
He performed his duties in the most accurate and strict way and was a very skilled manager to such an extent that some even compare him to Amir Kabir.
During the reign of Shah Safi, he became the Governor of Mazandaran Province and was later promoted to Prime Minister.
Saru Taqi was very precise and courageous in fighting with the corruption of high-ranking officials, and that caused his having many enemies among the courtiers, which finally led to his murder at their hands.
This event was very painful for Shah Abbas II, who was still very young at that time.
The Queen Mother was also a supporter of Saru Taqi; So, three-four days after the event, she ordered that everyone from the group that planned and performed Saru Taqi’s assassination be killed, and their corpses were then thrown from Ali Qapu Palace’s porch down to Shah Square and were left there for two-three days in order for others to learn the lesson.
It is said that a magnificent tomb was built for Saru Taqi, but nowadays there is no sign of it.
The mosque named after Saru Taqi exists in Jouybareh Neighbourhood, and some believe that his grave is somewhere close to this mosque, but these are also unsupported claims.
