The Lost Plunder

On top of the Qeysarie Gate, a hole can be seen, which is the empty place of a clock made by an English man named ‘Fasty’ for Shah Abbas I.

When the creator died, the clock stopped working, and no one else was ever found to be able to make the clock’s hands move again.

On top of this clock, a great bronze bell was dangling, which was plundered from the Portuguese Castle in Hormuz Island.

This bell was never struck; however, it was melted to make cannons in 1800, and it probably made a deafening sound!

It was around these years that the clock disappeared suddenly from atop the gate as well.

Aligned over the walls in front of the Ali Qapu Palace were 120 cannons, which were also plundered from Hormuz.
